Counselors

At Wayfarer, cabin and activity counselors are one in the same. These individuals are the camp’s most direct link to campers and parents. Cabin counselors are the leaders in each cabin. They are responsible for the safety and happiness of each camper in the cabin.

Cabin counselors also teach in program areas. In this way, they get to know all campers and see them in a variety of settings. They provide direction and energy in all activities.

CITs

Counselors-in-training are support staff that work in teams. These individuals help in all areas of camp including cabin areas, programs, and facilities. CIT’s have completed the 11th grade and are never expected to lead activities or be primary supervisors. CIT’s are actively training to take on the role of counselor once a rising college freshmen.

Camp Nurse

Camp nurses must hold a current nursing license and be able to legally practice in North Carolina.

Camp Wayfarer’s nurses are on-call for campers and staff 24/7 with the support of our on-call medical team. Camp nurses will administer all daily medications and as needed first-aid to campers and staff while keeping a log of camper/staff visits to the health center. Nurses will share the responsibilities of day-to-day nursing with their partner nurse for the session and will be welcome at special programming/events throughout their camp experience.

Camp Nanny

Camp Wayfarer is seeking a thoughtful and responsible nanny for our director’s children who are not quite old enough to be campers! You will spend your days caring for, working with, and organizing activities for the children that are infant and toddler age. You will be responsible for coordinating schedules and communicating with full time staff. Experience in working with children is required and applicants must have a clean driving record.

Kitchen Manager

Camp Wayfarer is looking to fill the position of Kitchen Manager for our upcoming Summer 2023 season. Applicants must have experience preparing food for large groups, an understanding of basic food nutrition, an attitude conducive to a summer camp setting, and must pass a background check. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

• Preparing 3 meals each day for a group of 300 +/- campers and counselors
• Creating week-long menus:
  • Menus must be varied and not repeat more than once within a single session
  • Healthy options must be included at each meal
• Managing food orders
  • Work directly with our food service for weekly orders and deliveries
  • Determine accurate amounts/volumes
  • Ensure proper inventory is maintained
  • Oversee deliveries and proper food storage
  • Maintain budget
• Must maintain a clean and organized kitchen at all times
  • In accordance to state and local standards
  • Floors swept and mopped
  • Food sealed and stored properly

Kitchen manager will oversee all operations of the kitchen and food service at camp, but will also have plenty of support. We have counselors at each meal that assist with both service and clean-up. We also have cook(s) to assist in food preparation.

Kitchen Staff

Our meals are prepared by experienced cooks who love to work in a children-oriented environment. Many have worked at Wayfarer for multiple years and we are always looking for fresh new recipes and ideas to bring to the tables at Camp Wayfarer! Prospective candidates must have prior experience working in a public, commercial kitchen, with knowledge of cooking for at least 100+ persons at each meal.

Photography / Marketing Internship

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about photography and capturing special moments that represent the Wayfarer experience. The intern will be responsible for photographing images of campers, cabin life, and activities throughout each day. Responsibilities will also include organizing, cataloging and uploading the images to the parent portal and for future marketing purposes on a daily basis. The intern will also be responsible for keeping the different social media platforms up-to-date, generating daily blog posts to our website and creating meaningful content to be used for future marketing purposes. Expedition Leaders

An incredible opportunity to lead a group of Wayfarers on a 2-week expedition in Colorado and Wyoming. From hiking and fly fishing to rafting and paddle boarding, the adventures are boundless. Applicants must have a dedication to working with children, patience, and a love for the outdoors. Between expeditions, these leaders also oversee several of our out-of-camp trips during traditional camp. These daily trips include leading day hikes, overnight camping trips and more.  Applicants must be 21 or older by May 15th of the respective summer and have a clean driving record.

Adventure Staff

Adventure staff members are part of our non-cabin staff that lead daily out-of-camp trips and support the daily program operations at camp. Adventure staff is required to be at least 21 years of age and hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. When not on out-of-camp trips, adventure staff will support camp through participation in special events, programming and meals. Camp Wayfarer will provide WFA, CPR, and Lifeguard training to adventure staff as they will be required to hold these certifications. All applicants must have experience in one or more of the following: outdoors, backpacking, hiking, whitewater kayaking/canoeing, mountain biking, and/or camping.
