It’s Tool Time – FALL PROJECTS!

As many of us get our first taste of the proverbial “sweater weather” during this latest cold snap, I think we can all agree that the fall season is quickly approaching. As always, the dawn of cooler weather marks a special time here at Camp Wayfarer; OFF-SEASON PROJECTS!!! We have big plans up our sleeves for the next few months and we wanted to take a moment to fill you in on all we have in store as we prep for Summer 2023!

If you have ever driven down the main entrance at camp, you are no stranger to the familiar structure we all call “the shed”. For years, this building served us well as a place of storage, intense ping-pong competition, trunk stacking, trip prep and so much more. It was also the home of our beloved camp store. Despite its utilitarian contribution, it’s safe to say the shed was not necessarily “easy on the eyes”. Well folks, the shed is no more! Jim Bob and his team of demolition experts have knocked down the building, carved out the bank of the hill, and we now have a beautiful new build site. Our plans are to construct a new infirmary, camp store, and trip headquarters all within the new footprint. While the build timeline remains to be determined, the initial steps of removing the shed have been carried out beautifully and we couldn’t be happier.

With all the dirt removed from the hillside, we were able to haul it down to the archery range to level out our target site. We are currently constructing a new archery building, complete with upgraded target holders.

Our tennis courts were constructed just a few years back. We are thrilled with how they turned out and our tennis-enthusiasts all seem to love the new location. The old courts are located at the opposite end of the property, adjoining the landsports field. For the past two summers, they have been used as makeshift pickleball courts. We are thrilled to announce that these old courts are undergoing a major makeover. The asphalt has already been removed and a few problematic trees cut down. We are prepping for the construction of six brand new pickleball courts, as well as outdoor basketball courts and badminton. Combined with a volleyball court upgrade and the existing landsports field, it’s sure to be a banner year for our athletes here at Wayfarer!

In addition to these larger scale projects, we will also be continuing our general upkeep and smaller facility improvements. We’re aiming for bathroom updates in girls camp, new wood flooring in cabins, updates to our lakefront, and the list goes on!

We hope everyone is having a fantastic start to their fall season, and we look forward to seeing you over the next few months. Until then, we’re off to work! Happy trails…
