A Summer Camp is Only as Strong as Its Leadership
For over 26 years, Jim Bob and Nancy Wilson have devoted their lives to the growth and continued successes of Camp Wayfarer. As founders, the dream of starting and owning a boys and girls camp actually began in 1977. Understanding that self growth and career experience would help their abilities to own and run a successful Christian summer camp, Jim Bob and Nancy pursued careers that would prove invaluable to camp ownership.
A graduate of the University of Missouri, Jim Bob Wilson has fulfilled a lifelong ambition with the founding of Camp Wayfarer. His involvement with youth encompasses teaching, coaching, Boy Scout Master, Sunday School teacher, as well as camper, counselor, and camp director. As a former Eagle Scout, Jim Bob is acutely aware of the benefit of providing a strong Christian environment for young people. Jim Bob left a successful business career to devote his time, leadership, and talents to full time work with youth.
Nancy Z. Wilson received a B.S. degree from Iowa State University and Masters from the University of South Carolina in Educational Administration. Nancy left 17 years of teaching and administration to work full time with Camp Wayfarer. Besides teaching, Nancy’s involvement with youth includes coaching, training young riders for Pony Club, and 4-H youth projects.
Now as ‘hands on’ owners and directors residing at Camp Wayfarer, the Wilsons are available to campers, parents and prospective families 365 days a year. As you can see, Jim Bob and Nancy’s varied youth oriented careers have allowed Camp Wayfarer to grow into a successful and wonderful overnight camp that will lead to many generations of campers smiling when they hear “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!”…
