Greetings Wayfarers!

Ben Lewis here, writing to you on a brisk October morning from the front porch at camp. The weather is certainly begining to shift in our part of the woods, and it sure seems like fall is officially in full swing. You guys know what the cooler weather means, right? FALL PROJECTS!! This is the time of year when we take to the drawing board and begin our off-season construction and renovations. Some years are more involved than others, but there is always a task to be tackled! We felt obliged to keep you up to speed on the exciting updates we intend to take on over the next few months.

First and foremost, the pool house! Many of you who follow @campwayfarer on instagram may already be aware, but things down at the pool look a littler different these days. A little more… flat, perhaps? The pool house we all know and love has officially been leveled and hauled away! This was a long time in the making and we are thrilled to begin construction on a new and improved pool facility. It will be very similar in construction to the new tennis hut. The building will include a covered stone terrace to be utilized for a variety of programming beyond typical pool use. Yoga, Waybo, and a number of other program areas may now find themselves enjoying their activities poolside!

Another big project on the docket is the construction of a new boys cabin! Our cabin site has been cleared and is ready to go. The new structure will sit just up the hill from cabin 11, and will have a fantastic view of the forest canopy. We’re very excited for this addition to our boys camp and can’t wait to break it in next summer!

The last major construction endeavor will be the addition of a dedicated archery structure. We have done a good bit of land grading down at the archery range, and we’re excited to build a covered pavilion similar to the neighboring riflery range. Not only will this offer a shady retreat during hot summer days, but it will allow us to run archery classes even under drizzly skies.

In addition to these bigger projects, there are always plenty of small tasks at hand as well. We have removed a number of larger dead trees, which has really helped to open up certain areas on the property. We are considering the addition of pine, tongue and groove floors to our girls cabins. Landscaping, painting, repairs… we just love getting our hands dirty and keeping this place in the best shape possible for our campers to enjoy!

Stay tuned to the blog and on instagram (@campwayfarer) to see how these projects all come together. We can’t wait for you to see the final product come summer 2022! Happy Halloween to all and we hope to see you on the road in the coming months. Over and out!

-Ben
